Billie

Billie Karel
Program Coordinator

Since 2003, Billie has worked to strengthen Toxic Free NC's connections to communities all across North Carolina, to find and develop volunteers and activists, and to help communities organize to win on local projects that reduce pesticide pollution. Billie brings a background in education and advocacy to bear in her work, and strives to equip people with the information and skills they need to be confident and effective advocates for change. She serves on the NC State University Integrated Pest Management Committee and the Board of Directors for The Beehive Collective. She also volunteers with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County. She studied human biology at Stanford University (BA, 2001), and holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University (2005).

Ana Pardo

Ana Duncan Pardo
Communications Coordinator

Ana is Toxic Free NC's newest staff member. She joined the staff in 2007 after honing her skills in outreach and service to farmworkers through the Farm Labor Organizing Committee in Dudley, North Carolina. Raised in Lincolnton, North Carolina, Ana is bilingual (Spanish/English) and has extensive experience in science communications as a writer and editor of NCSU's Undergraduate Research Journal and The Technician newspaper. She has led several community-based efforts on environmental and civic issues, and serves as a Vice-Chair of the Raleigh Citizens Advisory Council. Ana holds a BS in Botany and a Spanish minor from NC State University (2005).

Fawn

Fawn Pattison
Executive Director

Since 2001, Fawn has directed Toxic Free NC’s work to promote alternatives to toxic pesticides across North Carolina, especially where children are at greatest risk. Her focus is on bringing technical experts on pest control, human health and public policy into effective collaborations with communities affected by pesticide contamination. She chairs the Board of Directors of Student Action with Farmworkers. An experienced community organizer, she was formally trained as a linguist, with a BA from the University of Virginia and an MA from UNC-Chapel Hill, and holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University, and a certificate in Core Public Health Concepts from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Public Health.
